He's not really a character at all. This is why I think he may be a Gary Stu. He's not so much a stand-in for the author as much as he is a plot device. A walking, talking, occasionally psychically projecting plot device. He's there to make sure the next scene the author wants to write happens. And that's about it. Don't even get me started with the weird obsession with troop numbers in the back half of the book, either. Apparently this is the start of a series trilogy?
